Renovations to Treasure Island Resort are well on the way to completion and by the end of this year about 50 of its current 290 finished rooms could be available as tourist hotel rooms. The well known Seven Mile Beach resort has been transformed into what will be a mix of apartments for lease, corporate extended stay room and family holiday resort rooms. All its current 290 rooms have at this stage been fully renovated. In fact, one retail space and only a few of TI’s rooms (all with ocean or pool views and access to the beach) are still available for rent. The renovation work, which is costing about $6.75 million, is being undertaken by Restoration Cayman, LLC, a partnership of long–time Cayman resident Harry Lalli and some of his family. Together they purchased the resort in June 2005.
Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas, the world's largest Cruise ship, made its first visit to Grand Cayman on Wednesday 7 June. Various MLAs, and dignitaries including the Hon Charles Clifford, Minister of Tourism, attended a special presentation of plaques and keys on board ship. They were then joined by other VIP's from Cayman's business community. At 160,000 tonnes she comfortably beats the Queen Mary 2, and can accommodate 1,360 crew plus 4,375 passengers (1,755 more than the QM2). She is the size of the Eiffel Tower lain on its side. Besides Grand Cayman Freedom of the Seas also calls at Montego Bay in Jamaica and Cozumel, in Mexico, before returning to Miami. Some of the features of Freedom of the Seas include 'Flowrider,' the first-ever shipboard surf park, and a water park, which features interactive sculpture fountains, ground geysers, a cascading waterfall and a circular pool with its own built-in current.
Huw Moses, the managing partner of Appleby Spurling Hunter, decided the best place to receive his Queen’s Honour, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire medal was right here in the Cayman Islands. Mr. Moses, 45, received the award from Governor Stuart Jack last Saturday in recognition for his actions in relation to Hurricane Ivan in September, 2004. Recipients can choose to receive the award at Buckingham Palace, but Mr. Moses thought it more appropriate to receive it here. "The award was in recognition for my assistance to the Cayman people and to the financial services industry following the hurricane," he said, adding, "Cayman is where I live. It’s my home." Mr. Moses said he felt that since the efforts that earned him the award were very Cayman–oriented, it would have almost been a snub to the people of the Cayman Islands to accept it elsewhere.
Many former club members of the defunct Indies Suites say government regulation of timeshare properties is needed to avoid future situations similar to what they faced after Hurricane Ivan. Most of the former timeshare owners of Indies Suites have received their negotiated settlement over the past two months, however many remain angry and disappointed with the way the purchase of their Cayman vacation spot turned out. After a Grand Court decision to liquidate the Indies Suites Ltd. was overturned by the Court of Appeal late last year, the majority of timeshare owners decided to accept a settlement, which amounted to about 20 cents on their invested dollar. None of 16 former club members who responded to questions posed by the Caymanian Compass thought the settlement was fair.

Though only four years old, one of Liani's best friends is a police officer, and, his Mom, Mary, verified this as true. "His name is Tony," he said. Though he was a little shy at first in front of strangers, Liani was quite decisive about what he liked to eat. "Hamburgers and Fruit Loops" are two of his favourite things to eat. As far as regular television viewing is concerned, he was again very decisive. Liani said that adventure shows are his favourite. He revealed that for him, top-viewing pleasure comes from watching Discovery Kids. Back... .
